Study and Good News!

A completely different painting from that of the lighthouse; purposely done in a limited amount of time. The subjects: beautiful peppers I found at a local market who screamed at me: "Paint me! Paint me!"

You can bet you will see these again...

Lighthouse

A couple of fellow painters and I went to Key Biscayne on Sunday to paint the beautiful lighthouse "Plein Air" (outdoors). It is so challenging! The light keeps changing, and even though it is hard to believe, it was actually cold in Miami!
I can't help but love it! We are planning on doing it again very soon...Here is my result...

Basket of Apples

While I was in Sarasota for the Tata Gala I stopped at a supermarket and saw a beautiful arrangement of fall products. These apples were part of it. I am glad I had my camera with me at the moment, for this was definitely a fun painting.

Still life with Scallions

Yesterday I felt inspired but once again I was having difficulty setting up a still life. I went to the kitchen and grabbed some random objects and arranged them in different ways. The result was a nice composition with vertical and diagonal components... I love the understated beauty of simple compositions and bright colors.... I want the viewer to look at this and be reminded of home.

Plein Air by Hammocks Lake

This was done Plein Air (outdoors) during last Sunday when my friend and classmate Doris Rodriguez came to paint with me... It was such a nice day.... We walked along the path around Hammocks Lake and we found this nice spot just by the Broadwater complex...

I believe this is one of my most successful plein air paintings... I see the improvement!!!!

Avocado/Aguacate

I am in love with this piece... I adore these colors!!!! Can you feel the creaminess of the avocado?

I want to do more and more of this kind of thing -bright colors and simple compositions-

I actually took some progress photos in this one. I hope you enjoy it!

Monkey King

Before entering the Peking Opera, we got a chance to see the performers applying their make up. Besides knowing their performances by heart they also need to learn the art of decorating their faces... It was a very cool thing to see... No make up artists here!

Serenity

This is a scene from Shanghai. A quiet place in the house next to the bridge of nine turns. When I photographed it, I knew I had to paint it! Do you feel the calm of the place? A retreat from the noise of the city...

Buddha

While we were in China we had the opportunity to visit a couple of Buddhist temples. This Buddha was located in the first floor of the Jade Buddha Temple in Shanghai, and it is now part of my "China Series." I tried achieving that gold look... I hope it was effective!

Paintings coming soon

As you may already know, I was in China for the past two weeks. I was expecting to be able to post something to the blog while I was away, but I was unable to access the page from that country. So, this is just to let you know I will be posting more paintings as soon as I get back to the usual rythm...

Thank you for your patience!

Monet's Garden

I decided to challenge myself a little bit with this piece. It is another one of the paintings for my "Painting in the Gardens" class. The amount of greenery in this piece makes it difficult to create depth. I worked from a photograph taken in Monet's Garden in Giverny, France last year. I hope you like it! (The photograph looks just a tad darker than the actual piece).

Where is the Tequila?

I love limes! Eating them with salt is just wonderful!

I painted this piece in the style of one of my favorite artists: Carol Marine. I really love the sketchy, non-rigid qualities of it. I think I want to experiment more in this style, perhaps this is where I want to go next with my work (At least in oils). What do you think?

I worked a little bit more on this one... I added more light and I also tried getting a better pic.

This painting is a Master Study of one of the paintings from Monet's series of Argenteuil. I painted this in the first course I took with professor Chang; it was then that I discovered that I needed to go back to art.

Still life with two Mangoes

So! this is my latest creation... When my mother brought the mangoes from the grocery store they were begging to be painted! This is proof once again that I am absolutely in love with color and simple compositions... For some reason I am attracted to round things (as in the "Granadillas" painting). Hope you like it!
