Instagram Obsession

Hello World!
Due to ease of access and lack of time I have been posting most of my work and even my process via my Instagram account (@wxstudio). I'm posting some of it here for your enjoyment. The cats and the peonies are available for sale on my Etsy store. I enjoyed the painting process of both thoroughly. It was awesome to re-discover my secret stash of pastel paper! There's no better feeling that the creaminess of a soft pastel sliding over a sexy rough surface like the one I painted these babies in... I hope that wasn't too dirty for you ;)

Important Event

Although this is not directly related to my paintings (but she will probably become my model in the near future), I wanted to share with you an important event in my life...
Brandy was found in the rain with horrible mats in her hair but thanking God and my husband Paolo (who finally gave me the approval!) she has now found her "forever home."

Having visited Miami Dade county's animal shelter, I can tell you that it was a VERY sad experience. I love animals, and seeing so many of them there was absolutely traumatizing; especially knowing it is a kill shelter (they euthanize 35,000 dogs per year!!!!).

If you are looking for a loyal companion who will give you unconditional love, you can find it there. There are all kinds of dogs and cats waiting for a loving home... please consider adopting before buying. They even microchip them!!!

When I saw this cat, I simply knew I had to paint it. The color of its eyes and fur are simply enchanting.

Dog Portrait

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

I hope you spent the first hours of 2013 next to your family, friends or significant others.
Here is the first post of the year.  My subject: Yogi, my mom's new maltese pup. He came to the family 2 months ago and he has proven to be one hyperactive doggie. He has managed to steal my family's heart and of course, my own. I am now heading to my parents' house now for a delicious Colombian "asado" (BBQ).

Cat Study

I forgot to mention I have been getting a few reference photos from the web in order to paint... But don't worry! They are under the creative commons license, meaning I can transform them into a painting. Just one detail, I have to give credit to the photographer, her name is D Sharon Pruitt.
This cat study is from one of her photographs... Not a usual subject for me because I have to admit I am more of a dog person, even though I looooove animals...

Oh!!!
And after I stood up for like five seconds I found this beautiful sight... Thank God the painting was already dry!!!

My son...

I'm posting a little late today... I was not feeling the painting thing at all this afternoon. But then I decided to paint "my son" and everything worked out just fine. I present to you mi gordito consentido, the love of my life, the doggie we have been lucky to have for almost fourteen years: Copito!

Wisdom Owl

As I mentioned before, I was working on a medium-sized pastel painting; it took me a little longer than usual due to my lack of time... In any case, I used my sister as a model, and the idea for it came from a little exhibition called the Scavenger Project, in which the organizers gave the artists a couple of words and they had to interpret them... The theme for this one is wisdom, the owl being one of the animals used to represent this concept in mythology...

Olympic Panda
