Friend

I really felt the urge of painting with oils today, but I did not have a canvas of the right size nor did I know who I wanted to paint...
I decided to experiment and paint with oils on watercolor paper (by preparing it with fixative first), and as for the subject, I remembered I had taken some pictures of my friends a couple of weeks ago, and so I used my good friend Juan Carlos as my model.
I am quite happy with the results, considering I painted it in one sitting. I notice an improvement. Now I just gotta keep practicing!!! I will start working on a comission next week while I have spring break...

Enjoy!

Wisdom Owl

As I mentioned before, I was working on a medium-sized pastel painting; it took me a little longer than usual due to my lack of time... In any case, I used my sister as a model, and the idea for it came from a little exhibition called the Scavenger Project, in which the organizers gave the artists a couple of words and they had to interpret them... The theme for this one is wisdom, the owl being one of the animals used to represent this concept in mythology...

Poppies at Night -SOLD

After a long abscence from posting here I am again...

Actually, I am working on a medium size pastel painting, but while I can post that one I decided to play with acrylic a little bit and paint some poppies.
Acrylic dries really fast and it feels just right for this smaller paintings. I am more than half done with my internship and I am planning on becoming a daily painter as soon as that is over...

We'll see what happens then , but for now...

"Plant"

I don't know what is going on with my camera, but lately I can't get the pictures I wish for. I'm going to take out my light set soon and try it with that. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
This was done from a picture of a plant that is very commonly used by landscapers in Miami. I don't know the name of it, so I named it "plant," but if any of you recognize it please let me know so that I can change the title. Thank you!

Update

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am still alive!

I have done a small pastel painting I will be posting during the weekend. My schedule this semester is completely full and I have barely any time to go online and even less paint :(
Meanwhile, I have two wonderful news:
I have been accepted to the Oil Painters of America Society, and I am now part of the Southeastern Pastel Society!!!

I am soooooo excited. Belonging to a professional organization is one of the things you have to do when becoming a professional artist...

I will post again soon...

"Deering Estate"

This was done last December at the house of one of the Deering brothers (the other one owned Vizcaya). They were a wealthy family involved with agriculture...

A couple of my friends and I went to do Plein Air painting and this is my piece...

Commission

Happy New Year everyone!!!

I want to apologize for not posting my plein painting from the Deering Estate. I really love it! But I have been waiting for a little sunshine and less cold in order to get out there and photograph but... as I am writing this post, it is 38 degrees Farenheit outside (but feels like 30 because of the wind)... It has not been like this in Miami for 7 years!!!

I have been painting though, and today's painting is the result of a commission I have been working on. Also, I am about to begin my internship so I know it will be a hectic schedule!!! Please forgive me if I don't post as often; I will try to do it as much as I can.

Enjoy!
