From Sarasota...

I took the reference picture for this painting at the Ringling Mansion inside the Ringling Museum in Sarasota, FL. I recommend you all visit this wonderful place, most people do not realize it is there. I took a field trip with my mom over there for the Tata Gala last year and we ended up visiting by luck. I am sooo glad I did!!!!

Japanese Tulips

I am back to my normal work schedule. I begin classes again in May, when I will start the last stage of my graduate degree: thesis.
Before I start hyperventilating from imagining all the work I will have to be doing, I can tell you that today's post comes to you all the way from Japan. My sister finally realized her dream of traveling there (Good for you Viviana!!!! I'm proud!!!). She will be staying there for 20 days and so I commended her with the mission of taking lots of pictures for me to paint. Here is the first one!

Notre Dame

Wow!!! Has this been a crazy semester or what?!!?
But I am done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I finished my internship and my philosophy of education class and I am getting ready to become a daily painter. I am also working on a portrait commission which I expect to have finished by the end of this week. I want to start fresh with my new endeavor.
I also have thesis on the horizon, but that will not start until mid-May.
As you see, all these facts explain why I have not been posting as often as I wish. It does not mean I have not been painting...
Today's piece is another sepia study; this time of Notre Dame in Paris.

From France...

I went to Arteamericas at the Miami Beach Convention Center during Saturday, and I saw a painting that had been done with a very limited palette... It inspired me and I decided to experiment a little bit today...
I like the way the painting looks like an old photograph, hence the name... but it also makes me think of how quickly time passes... I cannot believe I took the reference photograph almost two years ago... I think I would like to paint this scene in color some day...

Friend

I really felt the urge of painting with oils today, but I did not have a canvas of the right size nor did I know who I wanted to paint...
I decided to experiment and paint with oils on watercolor paper (by preparing it with fixative first), and as for the subject, I remembered I had taken some pictures of my friends a couple of weeks ago, and so I used my good friend Juan Carlos as my model.
I am quite happy with the results, considering I painted it in one sitting. I notice an improvement. Now I just gotta keep practicing!!! I will start working on a comission next week while I have spring break...

Enjoy!

Wisdom Owl

As I mentioned before, I was working on a medium-sized pastel painting; it took me a little longer than usual due to my lack of time... In any case, I used my sister as a model, and the idea for it came from a little exhibition called the Scavenger Project, in which the organizers gave the artists a couple of words and they had to interpret them... The theme for this one is wisdom, the owl being one of the animals used to represent this concept in mythology...

Poppies at Night -SOLD

After a long abscence from posting here I am again...

Actually, I am working on a medium size pastel painting, but while I can post that one I decided to play with acrylic a little bit and paint some poppies.
Acrylic dries really fast and it feels just right for this smaller paintings. I am more than half done with my internship and I am planning on becoming a daily painter as soon as that is over...

We'll see what happens then , but for now...
